Apple Launches Cheaper Apple Pencil With USB-C Starting At $79

Apple launched its third-generation Apple Pencil for iPad users with a USB-C port at an affordable price starting at $79 on Tuesday.

Apple Launches Apple Pencil With USB-C

The new Apple Pencil is designed with a matte finish, pixel-perfect accuracy, low latency, and tilt sensitivity, making it ideal for note-taking, sketching, annotating, journaling, and more. It works excellently with iPadOS features like Scribble, Quick Note, and when collaborating with others in Freeform.

“Apple Pencil has revolutionized note-taking, sketching, and illustrating, unleashing endless possibilities for productivity and creativity,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, at launch.

“Combined with the versatility of iPad, the new Apple Pencil unlocks another great option to experience the magic of digital handwriting, annotation, marking up documents, and more.”

Further, the upcoming stylus supports the hover feature on the M2 iPad Pro models, allowing users to sketch and illustrate with even greater precision.

However, the highlight of the new Apple Pencil is the USB-C port hidden behind a sliding cap to enable customers to use a USB-C cable to connect to the new Apple Pencil for pairing and charging.

The new and affordable Apple Pencil is compatible with all iPad models with a USB-C port, including iPad (10th generation), iPad Air (4th and 5th generations), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generations), and iPad mini (6th generation).

When magnetically attached to the iPad for storage, the upcoming stylus enters sleep mode to preserve battery life. In addition, the new Apple Pencil (USB-C) measures 7.5 x 155 mm and weighs 20.5 grams, which is almost similar to the Apple Pencil 2.

However, the new Apple Pencil (USB-C) misses some features in Apple’s second-generation model. For instance, the stylus does not support features such as pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing, and charging, or the double-tap feature, which is used to change tools while working on creative apps. Also, there is no ability to add free engraving on the new Apple Pencil during purchase.

The new USB-C Apple Pencil, priced at $79, will be available for customers beginning in early November from Apple Stores, the Apple Website, and authorized retailers. The first-generation Apple Pencil is currently available for $99, while the second-generation model is priced at $129.
