According to the Twitter announcement, users can “pre-order” the ChatGPT app starting today from the Google Play Store.

For those unversed, the San Francisco-based company released the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT as a web version for public use late last year. This AI chatbot uses natural language processing to have human-like conversations, answer questions and compose various written content, such as emails, articles, essays, social media posts, and code.

In May 2023, OpenAI first rolled out its ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad users in the U.S. The ChatGPT iOS app is now available in 152 countries and regions. You can check out the list here.

Currently, Android users are required to visit the ChatGPT website in a web browser for instant answers. The launch of the ChatGPT Android app will remove the need to visit the website to access the AI chatbot.

The description of the ChatGPT Android app on the Google Play Store states it is a free official app that “syncs your history across devices, and brings you the newest model improvements from OpenAI.”

According to the Data Safety section on the Play Store, the app may collect data such as location, personal information (name, email address, phone number), and other in-app messages. Also, the app may collect data on app performance, diagnostics, app interactions, and other user-generated content.

OpenAI has listed the ChatGPT app on the Google Play Store with a ‘Register’ button. Interested users can use this option to pre-order the app. Once the app is made available, these users can install it on their Android devices. The listing also allows users to ‘Unregister.’

HOW TO PRE-REGISTER FOR THE CHATGPT ANDROID APP:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  2. Browse or use the search bar to find ‘ChatGPT’ or click here.
  3. Tap on ‘Install.’
  4. A dialog box will appear stating that the app will automatically install when available.
  5. The app will automatically download and install on your Android device when it becomes available.

If you do not want the app to automatically download on your device when available, you can turn off the ‘automatic install’ toggle.
