OnePlus, on Thursday, launched its first-ever foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, marking its entry into the world of foldable smartphones.

With dual displays, impressive-looking hardware and camera capabilities, and new multitasking features, the OnePlus Open, a sleek, lighter, and (slightly) cheaper phone, doesn’t feel like a compromise, unlike many competing folding smartphones in the market.

Let’s have a look at the key specifications of OnePlus One:

Design

OnePlus claims its first-ever foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, is “extremely light and compact,” with a metal frame and a glass back.

OnePlus Open will be available in two colors: Voyager Black and Emerald Dusk. The Emerald Dusk variant features a matte-frosted glass rear, while the Voyager Black features a more understated rear cover in vegan leather.

Display and Resolution

The OnePlus Open comes equipped with Dual ProXDR displays with a 2K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It offers a 6.3-inch 2K AMOLED display outside with a 10-120Hz refresh rate and 2484 x 1116 resolution.

It features a 7.82-inch 2K AMOLED display on the inside when unfolded, with a 1 -120Hz refresh rate and 2440 x 2268 resolution. Both displays also feature support for Dolby Vision.

Further, the display is also HDR10+ certified, supporting a wide color gamut. Both displays offer a typical brightness of up to 1400 nits, peak brightness of up to 2800 nits, and 240 Hz touch response.

Processor

Built on a 4nm process, the OnePlus One is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform. It runs on the all-new OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13 out of the box, with a guaranteed four years of major Android version updates and five years of security updates.

Measurements and Weight

When unfolded, the Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black variants will measure 5.8 mm and 5.9 mm thick, respectively. On the other hand, when folded, the Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black variants will have 11.7 mm and 11.9 mm thickness, respectively.

Coming to its weight, the Voyager Black weighs around 239 grams, while the Emerald Dusk weighs about 245 grams.

Storage

The device is available in a single storage variant, with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

On the camera front, the OnePlus Open features a primary 48MP camera with Sony’s LYT-T808 “Pixel Stacked” CMOS sensor with OIS (optical image stabilisation). It also has a 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 48MP ultrawide lens.

On the front, the device has a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls, while the inner screen has a 20MP selfie snapper. The camera can record videos in 4K quality with 60 FPS. OnePlus has continued its Hasselblad partnership for cameras with the OpenPlus Open.

Battery

The new OnePlus Open is backed by a 4,805mAh battery with support for 67W SuperVOOC charging that charges the battery (from 1-100%) in approximately 42 minutes. A charger is also included in the retail box.

Other Features

The Open supports Wi-Fi 7 out of the box and dual 5G cellular connectivity standards for fast and seamless connection. OnePlus’ signature Alert Slider will also be available on the device.

Starting October 26, 2023, the OnePlus Open will go on sale in the U.S. and Canada through OnePlus.com, Amazon and Best Buy. Pre-orders for the device are already open. Available in Voyager Black and Emerald Dusk, the OnePlus Open starts at USD 1,699.99 / CAD 2,299.99.
