iPhone 15 Pro Models Introduce A New “Action Button”

Apple on Tuesday debuted its latest iteration of smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. While the new series of iPhones comes with a lot of features, one of the highlighting features is the all-new “Action Button” on both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.

Everything That You Need To Know About Action Button

With its iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, Apple has added a new “Action Button” that allows users to toggle between ring and silent switch. This button replaces the single-function switch Apple introduced with its iPhone in 2007.

The new button offers additional options to users so that they can choose between quickly accessing the camera or flashlight, activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate, or using Shortcuts for more options. They can also set accessibility features like Magnifier. However, users can choose from a set of actions for even more convenience and versatility.

Further, a press-and-hold gesture with fine-tuned haptic feedback and visual cues in the Dynamic Island ensures the new Action button launches the intended action. Users can customize this in Settings and assign it to different actions.

By default, the Action button is still a mute toggle, which means that a single press mutes the device, and pressing it again unmutes the smartphone.

Here’s what the Action Button can do:

  • Silent Mode: It can toggle the silent mode on or off like the Ring/Silent switch on existing ‌iPhone‌ models. This will mute or unmute the ringer and alerts.
  • Camera: A single press of the Action button can launch the Camera app and/or click a photo or video.
  • Flashlight: It can turn on or off the flashlight on the back of the device.
  • Voice Memos: It can or stop recording a voice memo with the Voice Memos app.
  • Focus: It can activate or deactivate a Focus mode.
  • Translate: With a single press of the Action button, it can launch the Translate app and start a conversation or text translation.
  • Accessibility: It provides access to various accessibility settings, such as Zoom, VoiceOver, AssistiveTouch, and more.
  • Shortcuts: It can run a shortcut created in or downloaded from the Shortcuts app, such as sending a message, controlling smart home devices, or playing a playlist.
  • Magnifier: It can activate the Magnifier app to use the ‌iPhone’s camera as a magnifying glass to zoom in on detect objects near you, as well as detect people, objects, and scenes around you.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models start from September 15, with availability beginning September 22.
