GTA 6 Release Date May Be Pushed To 2026: Report

In December 2023, Rockstar Games released the first trailer of its highly anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), on its official YouTube channel, announcing that the game will be coming to Sony PS5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X/S consoles in 2025.

However, a new report from Kotaku, citing an anonymous member of the gaming studio, suggests that the GTA 6 release date may be pushed until late 2025 or even into 2026. The report mentions that the progress of GTA 6’s development is facing challenges, which is causing the video game to fall behind.

In February, following numerous leaks, Bloomberg reported that Rockstar Games is asking its developers to return to the office at the beginning of April 2024 so that the gaming title can be released on time.

This unexpected change and the short notice given to employees to return to the office to work five days a week after being hired remotely have unsettled many workers, leading to growing frustration that has affected production (via Aftermath).

There are also concerns about Rockstar Games falling back into unhealthy crunch practices at the studio. According to sources cited by Kotaku, “quality and safety concerns play a big role in this decision,” which is prompting the recall of even remote employees.

While employees are still targeting an early 2025 launch window for the next GTA game, a lot of game production is pending, which may delay the game to 2026 as a sort of “emergency” or “fallback plan” if required.

As far as the next GTA 6 trailer release date is concerned, a source told Kotaku that “Rockstar Games historically waits until the “last minute” to make changes or alter plans.” This means the exact date for the next GTA 6 trailer remains uncertain at this time, but the source added that this does not suggest a delay as the company pushes forward on development.
