2 Ways To Uninstall Microsoft Edge From Windows 11

0

Windows 11 ships with the Edge browser, and it is the default browser in Windows 11. Based on Chromium, the Edge browser is now faster and safer than ever. However, some users love to use other web browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

While Microsoft Edge is on par with other browsers, most users prefer Chrome over other web browsers. If you like a browser other than the Edge, you can install a browser of your choice in Windows 11. But what if you want to completely remove Edge from your Windows 11 computer before installing a browser of your choice?

In Windows 11, most default apps can be uninstalled by navigating to the Settings > Apps > Default apps page. However, the page does not display an uninstall option for the Edge browser.

As a result, we cannot use the Settings app to remove Edge. Luckily, we can use the classic Command Prompt to completely uninstall Edge from Windows 11 by executing two simple commands.

Method 1 of 2

Uninstall Edge from Windows 11 via Command Prompt

IMPORTANT: If you have saved passwords, bookmarks, or any other data in the Edge browser, we recommend you export those data to any different browser before uninstalling Edge.

Step 1: Open the Command Prompt as administrator by typing CMD in the search, right-clicking on the Command Prompt entry, and then clicking Run as administrator.

Click the Yes button when you get the following prompt.

Step 2: In the Command Prompt, copy and paste the following command:

cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\9*\Installer

Press the Enter key to execute the command.

Step 3: Next, copy and paste this command:

setup.exe –uninstall –force-uninstall –system-level

Press the Enter key to uninstall and remove Edge from your Windows 11 PC.

Method 2 of 2

Uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 11

Step 1: First of all, launch the Edge browser. Click on the Settings and more menu icon (refer to the picture below), click Help and feedback, and click the About Microsoft Edge option. This will open the About page.

Step 2: Here, you need to copy only the version number of the Edge. For example, in the screenshot below, 93.0.961.52 is the version number, and we need to copy that only.

Step 3: Next, launch the Command Prompt as administrator. To do that, type CMD in the search, right-click on the Command Prompt entry, and then click the Run as administrator option.

Click the Yes button when you see the prompt.

Step 4: At the Command Prompt window, execute the following command:

cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\93.0.961.52\Installer

In the above command, replace 93.0.961.52 with the actual version number of Edge that you copied in Step 2.

Step 5: Finally, copy and paste the following command to completely remove Edge from your Windows 11 installation.

setup.exe –uninstall –force-uninstall –system-level

You may close the Command Prompt window now.
